Welcome to day two of my summer “wrap up” week and more importantly day ONE of Fishsticks Designs’ Jersey Love Blog Tour!
When the lovely Bonnie asked if I’d participate I didn’t hesitate to say yes. Her designs always seem to mix wearability and comfort with little pops of something unique thrown in to make the garment extra special. The four designs she’s just released for use specifically with stretch jersey fabrics don’t disappoint. I jumped at the chance to sew the Beachcomber Dress from her new Jersey Love line.
I mean, look how cute it is! |
Since the tour is sponsored by Riley Blake Designs, they generously sent us our choice of fabric from their new line of stretch cotton/spandex jersey basics. Here is where I gush. When the fabric arrived I couldn’t get over how buttery soft it is. There are lots of different colors and patterns and the fabric has a great stretch memory so I will definitely find myself buying more of their jersey in the future.
I made a mistake when I emailed the list of fabric I was interested in, so when it arrived I was missing the orange stripe that I wanted to mix in with the two other fabrics. This was 100% my mistake and yet right away they sent me the third fabric once I told Bonnie about the mix up. So generous.
You can see why I was dying to get that orange striped fabric. My original thought was to use the grey fabric as a background since it sort of looked scuba-suit-ish and I wanted something a bit subdued to go along with the bright colors. I love the aqua stripe with the grey, but the orange really makes everything pop which is what I was hoping for.
The Beachcomber dress is the perfect summer dress. It could just as easily go from wearing to the park to a beach cover up.
Because jersey won’t fray, the design is meant to feature those curling edges that jersey is known for and so most of the seams are visible. I have only washed and dried the dress once, so it is not fully curled yet, but even with the extra wear after these pictures were taken they are coming along nicely.
I made the dress in size 3T with the hope that Bean can wear it next summer and I think it’ll be just perfect.
We had so many compliments while walking around in the dress so I’m sure it’ll get a lot of use even with what we have left of this summer.

It's adorable! I've been looking for some good stretchy knit for school uniform tops. I'm going to check what colors they have in solids…I need a couple bolts since I have mt daughter & 2 nephews at the same school, and they'll all be there for a few more years. I need a horrible banana color, baby blue, and white. (Worst colors ever for stains! I wish they'd add navy & black!!!) anyways, enough complaining, I just wanted to tell you I love this creation, & I'd like to see it again next summer. Also thanks for the link!
