It’s time for 2016’s Skirting the Issue, hosted by Simple Simon & Company, and I’m thrilled to be a part of this great cause again this year. If you aren’t familiar with Skirting the Issue, take a minute to familiarize yourself and then come back to get all the info about this fun FREE SwimSkirt pattern supplement to the Classic Maillot.
I designed this Classic Maillot SwimSkirt to fit with the bottoms of the Classic Maillot pattern, but you don’t need to own the Classic Maillot pattern to make it as I’ve included the bottoms in the free download as well. So everything you’ll need to make this adorable SwimSkirt is included. All you have to do is join the Designs by Call Ajaire Facebook Group to access the free file.
The SwimSkirt is designed to just skim the lower edge of the bottoms when unhemmed so it’s a true swim skirt. If you want to hem the skirt it’ll be a little shorter, but still just as adorable.
To go with the SwimSkirt I made a Classic Maillot tankini without the regular tankini “skirt” portion. I just cut the maillot pattern at the waist and extended the top by a couple of inches and hemmed the edge. It was an easy hack and I think it turned out to be a great shape with this SwimSkirt.
This might be Bean’s favorite swimsuit I’ve made so far and I’ve made a bunch this summer. It’s super cute watching her run around in it and she said she feels like a princess.
Speaking of princesses, look at this adorable Ariel version tester Maggie made for her girl. This one has a fold over hem and she’s wearing it over a Classic Maillot view D.
Here’s another adorable one on Maggie’s girl and this one (including the Classic Maillot tankini hack I mentioned above) has a lettuce edge hem and I love the use of the blue thread!
And this version by Gina of Sew Penny Vintage turned out perfect! I love the color/pattern mix of the fabrics.
She did a fantastic hack of the Classic Maillot for this cropped tankini so read all about that here.
So again, this Classic Maillot SwimSkirt is available for FREE just for joining the Designs by Call Ajaire Facebook group so come on over and join in the fun. If you’d like to purchase the Classic Maillot complete pattern it’s on sale in my Etsy shop as a part of the Summer Swimwear Tour 2016.
