The new Project Run & Play collaboration is finally available for purchase and – you guys!! – this pattern capsule is so so good. With 10 PDF patterns, 6 designers, and fresh styles for both boys and girls, the Watercolor Beach collection is sure to become your summer go to.
I designed two of the looks for the collection – the Chromium Cropped Hoodie and the Ultramarine Cover-Up – and I’ll tell you all about those in another post, but today I want to focus on some of the other pieces in the collection. So far I have sewn 7 of the 10 patterns: Cobalt Boardshorts, Bodhi Boardskirt, Abby’s Marigold Pants, Viridian Swimsuit, and of course the Ultramarine Cover-Up and Cropped Hoodie. I adore how well it all goes together and I already have plans for the other three patterns as well. It really is the perfect summer pattern capsule. The complete collection is priced at 30% off of the individual patterns and can be purchased here. The individual patterns can be purchased separately and they are on sale for release week only at 20% off!
Since we couldn’t go to the beach to take pictures of the collection, due to the stay at home orders, I brought the “beach” to us and had the most absurd backyard beach photo shoot. It was completely ridiculous wrangling these two, but we had a lot of fun.
Kitty’s outfit is where we will begin. She was wearing two of Jennuine Designs’ patterns for the shoot: the Cobalt Boardshorts and Viridian Swimsuit. How adorable are those Cobalt Boardshorts in the 18m size? I made them without all of the fun details like pockets or a fly because I wanted that pink boardshort fabric (from KnitFabric.com who was a sponsor of the collection) to shine on it’s own with just a bit of topstitching. I did include the swim liner inside, however so these are perfect for in and out of the pool this summer. Even with the swim liner, this bare bones version sewed up super quick. I plan to make a pair for Bean and I’ll be sure to add in the pockets and maybe the faux fly option cause she’ll want ALL the details.
The Viridian Swimsuit has a ton of options, but I couldn’t get past this 18m skirted top view. The skirt can be used as a skirted bottom or attached to the top and both the bottoms and tops have colorblocking options as well as those super cute ruffles. I knew I wanted to make just a top to go with the boardshorts and I couldn’t pass up the ruffles, but was worried about the two piece showing a little too much of Kitty’s belly. Now, I’m all about baby bellies, but Kitty has such fair skin and I’m a little nervous about how it’ll fare in the sun. Bean’s skin is naturally darker and she has never had a burn, but I do worry that Kitty inherited the more “Irish” skin of the gene pool haha.
All of that led to this super adorable combo with just enough belly coverage to ease my nerves. Plus there’s still a peek of belly showing so it’s really the best of both worlds! This gorgeous striped fabric is from Knitfabric.com as well and I can’t wait to use some of it for more swim this summer.
I’ll be back again tomorrow with more from the photo shoot and some details about what Bean was wearing, but if you’re already sold on the collection you can purchase it in the Project Run & Play shop or in my shop here. If you sew something with the Watercolor Beach pattern capsule collection be sure to use the hashtag #projectwatercolorbeach so we can all see what you’ve made.
