It’s time for another Skirting the Issue and I couldn’t be more happy to participate in such a great cause. This year I’m showing you a simple modification to last year’s FREE swimskirt pattern that changes it into something fresh for your girl.
The Classic Maillot SwimSkirt is a free pattern available in the shop which I talked about here for Skirting the Issue last year. Click over there to find out more and click here to Simple Simon for all the details about Skirting the Issue and what you can do to help support the cause.
To update the swimskirt, I simply added ruffles across the bum and my girl LOVES it. To make this easy modification yourself, cut long strips of swim fabric about 1.5″ wide, baste two lines of stitching, pull the stitches to ruffle, and then pin the strips across the back piece, stitching a line down the center of each to hold the ruffles in place.
Remove the basting stitches and sew the swimskirt together using the original instructions, catching the ends of the strips inside the side seams. Super easy, for such a fun look!
The front remains solid like the original version, so the ruffles are a happy surprise from the back.
Check out my first post (spoiler alert: more ruffles) for Skirting the Issue a couple of years ago, and then head over to Simple Simon & C0. to find out all about this year’s Skirting the Issue!
