Can I tell you how excited I am about Very Peri, this year’s Pantone color of the year? Around here we’ve been all about purple for years and with Bean leaning more toward blue lately, this periwinkle color is just perfect. Jumping onto the Project Run & Play Pantone Party was a no-brainer.
The first thing I did was to go to my sponsor, KnitFabric.com and search for periwinkle colored fabrics in order to make a plan. The top item was a periwinkle cotton/lycra solid that I knew I could use to pull both looks together. Amy’s solid C/L’s are always soft and have a good stretch/recovery, so I was confident in choosing this one first.
The next fabric that caught my eye was this cool Blue & Purple Tie Dye cotton lycra, that I knew Bean would love. With two fabrics chosen, I decided to go over to the PR&P shop and see what patterns might work with cotton/lycra and how I could fill in some gaps in the girls’ wardrobes. There are so many great knit patterns in the shop, but I quickly narrowed it down to a few dress/top designs.
The Via Top, Tunic, & Dress pattern from Sofilantjes looked like a great pattern to try for Bean. Quick sew, fun colorblocking, and an easy-fit shape were the qualities that sold me on this one. I sewed a size 10 with slight blending out to 11 at the hip and length and the fit is just right. I’ve sewn plenty of Sofilantjes patterns in the past, so I knew I could count on the size chart going in.
I needed one more fabric to get the colorblocking right and I wanted something that could make the tie-dye pop. These stof stripes in periwinkle would do the trick. I thought putting them on the bias at a diagonal would add a little fun to those side strips and Bean loved how it turned out.
For Kitty’s look I went straight to the gorgeous trees in this Enchanted Forest cotton/lycra. This one is low on stock and I wish I had grabbed more! The purples, blues, and pinks are perfectly complimented by the greens of this print and I adore it.
The Foliis Jacket and Dress pattern, again by Sofilantjes was too cute to pass up. I love the hood combined with the zip up front. This is a size 2t with 3t length and the fit is just right. It’s such a great design and I can’t wait to sew the jacket views too.
I didn’t want to break up this stunning print too much, but I thought some contrast pockets in those stof stripes would be fun. It all came together wonderfully with the same periwinkle solid I used for Bean’s dress. I added in a pair of Diamondback Leggings in the solid as well, just to boost her wardrobe a bit.
I’m thrilled with how well these two looks came together and know we’ll use these patterns again. So what will you sew up in this Very Peri color this year? These certainly won’t be our last makes in this palette.
